Daily activity:
Thursday: water temp 84.6 SW 12-15mph in the a.m. / 84.6 W 5-11mph in the p.m. The water was clean. There was a very early morning King Mackerel bite. At least a dozen “snake” Kings hit the deck with a few Spanish Mackerel in the mix. The afternoon was slower with a half dozen snake Kings decked. Late afternoon, Dean from N. C. got a solid hit then a long screaming run. The fish took him deep into the backing on his reel. After a second run, Dean was able to bring the fish pier side on the west corner only to break off when the fish circled the gaff rope. It looked to be a solid 35 pounds if not more. There were also a few Spanish caught. There were Cigar Minnows, Alewives and Spanish Sardine available for live bait.
Friday: water temp 83.7 Sin the a.m. / 84.0 S 7-10mph in the p.m. The water was clean. There were a few “snake” King Mackerel and a few Spanish Mackerel in the morning along with lots of rain. The afternoon was very dead. Only a couple of Spanish were caught. Red Drum were active in the skinny water late afternoon. A couple of tiny Sailfish were seen but no bites. Bait was limited but Alewives, Cigar Minnows and a few Spanish Sardine were available.
Saturday: water temp 82.8 ENE 5-8mph in the a.m. / 84.6 W 9-13mph in the p.m. There were 10 small 8–10-pound King Mackerel caught in the afternoon. Paul D. caught slot Red Drum in the skinny water.
Sunday: water temp 84.7 NNE 5-7mph in the a.m. / 86.4 NNE 5-12mph in the p.m. The water was clean. There were a few “snake” King Mackerel in the morning along with some Spanish Mackerel like this one Justin caught. There were only small Spanish in the afternoon. Mark F. got another upper slot Red Drum in the shallows late afternoon.
Monday: water temp 84.0 N 5-7mph in the a.m. / 83.8 NNE 8-15mph in the p.m. The water was clean. There were two “snake” Kings and a few Spanish Mackerel in the morning. The afternoon saw a few more Spanish, lots of Remoras and several tiny Sailfish sighted. There were Alewives and a few Cigar Minnows available for live bait.
Tuesday: water temp 82.4 NNE 6-9mph in the a.m. / 82.8 NNE 7-14mph in the p.m. The water was clean. There were two “snake” Kings and a few Spanish Mackerel in the morning. The afternoon saw a few more Spanish, lots of Remoras and several tiny Sailfish sighted. There were Alewives, Cigar Minnows and a few Spanish Sardine available for live bait.
Wednesday: water temp 82.2 ENE 6-11mph in the a.m. / 83.1 NNE 5-12mph in the p.m. The water was clean. There were Spanish Mackerel in the morning. The afternoon saw more Spanish, lots of Remoras, Ladyfish and several tiny Sailfish sighted. There were Alewives, Cigar Minnows and a few Spanish Sardine available for live bait.
Red Tide status: In Northwest Florida over the past week, K. brevis was not observed in Bay County. Two samples from Gulf County observed the organism at very low concentrations.
